Stabilizing footage in DaVinci Resolve is so simple, which requires a few clicks and is done. But there are lots of ways to stabilize in DaVinci Resolve. So, buckle up, and let’s begin.
How to Stabilize in DaVinci Resolve
Stabilizing the footage inside the Edit tab
- 1. First, select the footage which you want to stabilize inside the Edit tab.
- 2. Now Click on the Inspector icon.
- 3. Scroll Down and find the Stabilization section.
- 4. You will get three ways to stabilize in DaVinci Resolve, every option has different algorithms to stabilize your clips.
- 5. As you can see these three options by clicking on the right side of Mode, where Perspective has been selected by Default.
- Perspective: Perspective stabilization is similar to Premiere Pro’s Warp Stabilizer.
- Similarity: This mode will apply on the pan, zoom, tilt, and rotation axis.
- Translation: This mode will apply on tilt and pan analysis only, which uses the X and Y axis to Stabilize the footage.
You can achieve additional results with other settings.
- The Camera Lock is a tripod stabilization mode. It will force you to remove all the movement in your footage. Mark Camera Lock and all other options will automatically remove.
- The zoom function will try to remove the moving black bars on the edge, which will appear when you stabilized the footage.
- The Cropping Ratio makes DaVinci Resolve to know how much crop is needed to stabilize the footage. The higher you go the more image will be cropped.
- When you are not removing all the movements, with the Smooth slider you can tell DaVinci how much smooth footage is required. The default value of the Smooth slider is 0.250, but you can adjust it according to your needs.
- Strength is defined by how strong you want stabilization to be in your footage, By default, it’s set to the maximum value.
- To stabilize the footage you have selected, you have to try some times to get the best result. Just begin with the Perspective mode with all default settings.
Click on Stabilize. You will see a progress bar. If you want to change the settings, then you have to click stabilize again.
You will not get the perfect result the first time. It’s a trial-and-error game. You have to try 3-4 times, then you will get your desired results. In some results you will see zoomed video or cropped video, then you have to change the settings then you will know how to stabilize in DaVinci Resolve.
- 1. Go to Modes and select Translation.
- 2. Click and Drag the Smooth slider to right and increase it.
- 3. Click on Stabilize.
Stabilizing the Video in Color tab
You can also stabilize the footage in the color tab.
- 1. Go to the Tracker tool, which looks like a target. Then go to Window > Stabilizer.
- 2. You can also see the same options on the bottom, and in the Edit tab, you will get Ratio, Smooth, Cropping, Camera, Strength, and Zoom.
- 3. Just select the Similarity and click the Stabilize button, then a new window will appear and show progress.
